There are over 30,000 high schools in the country, each with students boasting good grades, good test scores, and a myriad of activities.  With very few colleges offering interviews, the application essays are the BEST -- and sometimes ONLY -- opportunity for students to distinguish themselves as unique and interesting candidates, to convince the college admissions officers that they would be an asset to the school, and to bring to life the person and personality behind their application.

But writing a stand-out essay is easier said than done. The essays are typically the most stressful part of the application process.  And for good reason: the essays are blank slates with endless possibilities!  Plus, they are generally the only part of the application that students can control during the application process, since the other key elements -- grades, test scores and activities -- are established facts to be recited. So, it's only natural for students to feel a bit overwhelmed, especially if they are applying to several schools and have numerous different essays to write.
